It relates well to the time and era the book was written. Gender conversation is one of the weak points. ![]() However, the story picks up our interest only in the latter part of the book. And equal share of male and female characters in the story is worth mentioning. The thing we loved the most about the book is the sibling’s bond it showcases. It inspires kids to be good and to help others. Each character has their own relevant role in the story. ![]() Perks, the old gentleman, aunt Emma, Mrs. The other characters in the story are Mr. All three are cute, loving and fond of their parents. The three Siblings in the story are Roberta, Peter and Phyllis. A spellbinding story to keep the readers engaged and amused. The curious brave act of the eldest one to solve the mystery of her father’s disappearance. The different incidents the children went through, the love and generosity, mother’s anger, giving and receiving help to strangers. The story moves in pace with introduction of each and every character at perfect time. But the young kids began to like the place discovering the hills and valleys, the railways and the canals. The new home is not as big and same as their home in London. Mother and the children move to a small cottage in the village. Father has to mysteriously leave the home. Life is combination of good and bad things. Their daily routine, mother’s love for writing and kids in action is something that prompts the reader curiosity to know more about their life. The story begins with introduction of a suburban lovely family. Their love and craziness to run, watch and keep a track of every single train that passes through their village might be a reason for the book title. The kids in the story are not exactly the railway children. A lovely, beautiful, interesting stories blended with bizarre events and characters. The book is about the innocent and crazy deeds of their childhood. The Railway Children is a classic novella for young readers. She is a well-known author for her unusual syndication of real-life stories with fanciful events. She is popularly known as the first modern writer for children. But the mystery surrounding their father continues to worry the children, especially Bobbie. They prevent a train disaster, rescue a schoolboy, who has broken his leg and is stranded in a railway tunnel, and help a Russian refugee, who is trying to find his family. They make friends with the railway staff and in particular with one of the railway passengers, who they call the ‘Old Gentleman’. The children have lots of adventures as they explore the countryside and especially the railway line and station. Their lives are drastically changed as without their father’s income, their mother is now busy writing to earn money. The children don’t know where he has gone or why. Their father had mysteriously left their home in the company of two men one evening. Three young children, Roberta, known as ‘Bobbie’ (12), Peter (10), and Phyllis (8) move from London to ‘The Three Chimneys’, a much smaller house in the countryside near a railway line, with their mother. It was originally serialised in The London Magazine during 1905 and first published in book form in 1906. It’s ‘a feel good’ book about a family living in a world long gone – 1905 to be precise. ![]()
